Senate Passes N4.695 Trillion Budget

The Nigerian senate has today passed the budget of the sum of N4.695 trillion for the 2014 fiscal year in excess of N53 billion from the initial N4.642 trillion proposed by the Executive.

Plenary of February 6 - 27, 2013

Senate resumed Plenary with Public Petition Rising on Rule 41; Senator Akin Odunsi (Ogun West) drew the attention of the Senate to a Petition from his constituent, Inspector Emmanuel Ediare, on wrongful dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force, urging the Senate to look into it.

The Committee on Drugs, Narcotics & Financial Crimes was created at the commencement of the Senate and entrusted with the following responsibilities:

  • Matters relating to law enforcement, administration and policies on drugs, narcotics and financial crimes
  • Monitoring of relevant Government Ministries/Extra-ministerial departments, agencies, offices, organisations, schools, institutions, rehabilitation centres, etc., established for the purposes of controlling narcotics and financial crimes
  • Liasing with the United Nations, foreign countries, international bodies and Non-governmental organisations for the purpose of harmonising narcotics, drugs and financial crimes laws  in line with the United Nations, Governments and International Treaties
  • Annual budget estimates
